There is a new itunes app for “Oriental Treasures of the Bavarian State Library”.
As one of the world’s leading libraries the Bavarian State Library has compiled a substantial collection of 17,000 Oriental and Asian manuscripts since its foundation in 1558, 4200 of which originate from the Islamic world. The App “Oriental Treasures of the Bavarian State Library” presents an exquisite selection of these holdings…
I’ve seen people around me using the ipads and I definitely want one, but at 2000 to 3000 SAR, I can’t justify the expense just quite yet.
Unfortunately, the library’s online Oriental collection is a little harder to find. Here is an alphabetized browsing index. There is much medieval material, some collections from monasteries, musical manuscripts, much about Russia and of course Bavaria, and manuscripts grouped by language. Here is the index to the Arabic manuscripts.
There is much gorgeous material here. Click through a few links, and you will want to handle the books in person.
Their link to The Middle East Virtual Library (MENALIB), an information portal for Middle East, North African, and Islamic Studies, is broken. Here is a good link.
